You Brighten My Day

Both of my cards for today’s post feature stamps from the You Brighten My Day stamp set which is one of the Sale-a-Bration freebie sets. I love how this set coordinates with so many punches (the shadowed images below have coordinating punches).

The You Brighten My Day card uses Tangelo Twist and Hello Honey with a little bit of Coastal Cabana and Soft Suede. To give the light bulb some shimmer, it has been embossed with the Iridescent Ice embossing powder with the help of one of my favourite tools: the Stamp-a-ma-jig. I also love Stampin’ Up! embossing powders because they are so fine that even embossing the fine lines of the light bulb is not an issue – I’ve used other powders before which are quite coarse and you lose the detail of the stamp.

The background sun in this card is made using two shapes from the What’s Your Type stamp set. As this set is photopolymer, no Stamp-a-ma-jig is required to layer the images! I’ve also used the Circle Framelits to cut out the centrepiece.

The second card features the house and yay! banner stamp from the You Brighten My Day stamp set. I made this card for a friend who has just bought a new house. I actually cut the houses out free hand but they can also be punched using the What’s Up Punch. The banners I punched using the Banner Punch of course. The solidly inked banners are a stamp from the Banner Banter stamp set and the congratulations comes from the Embellished Events stamp set that I use so often.

I’ve cut out a window using the Window Frames framelits and adhered Confetti Celebration DSP to the rear using dimensionals. The two end banners were adhered using Snail to the Blackberry Bliss card and the three inner banners are stuck to the DSP with dimensionals, this way all the banners are on the same level. Similarly the Strawberry Slush and Bermuda Bay houses are stuck to the card and the Blackberry Bliss house is stuck to the DSP with dimensionals.

As Blackberry Bliss is such a dark cardstock, I’ve used an old Stampin’ Up! product I had still lurking around: Shimmer Paint in Frost White. Stampin’ Up! now have some great products for dark cardstock such as the Craft Stampin’ Ink or the fabulous ColorBox Chalk Ink Pads from the new Occasions Catalogue, available in three great colours.
